KUCHING, Sept 22: All seven landowners of the industrial lot in Bintawa Industrial Estate are thrilled to finally receive their individual land titles after a lapse of 30 years.

Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong revealed that the Land and Survey Department has issued the individuals land titles with a lease term of 60 years to all seven parcels of industrial lot in Bintawa Industrial Estate situated beside the Bintawa wet market.

“They are thrilled and feel very grateful to DAP (Democratic Action Party) for fighting so hard in getting the authority to issue them with the titles,” she said in a statement today.

She had accompanied a few of the landowners to the Land and Survey Department to collect their respective original document of titles today.

Since 1990, Yong pointed out that the landowners, who are mainly in the cottage industry and operators of salted fish business, have been operating at the industrial estate under temporary occupation license (TOL) after they were asked to relocate from the original site at Petanak.

In fact, she said that the landowners had earlier on sought the help from Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) regarding their plights before they approached DAP, but to no avail.

“Previously, before the issuance of the land titles, the operators were not able to either charge their land or seek any financing to expand development on their lands.

“Their rights over the lands were also not protected and recognised under the Sarawak Land Code 1958 as they were only holding the TOL,” she added.— DayakDaily
