KUCHING, April 4: The Batang Rambungan bridge project has been classified as a ‘sick project’, and its tender is under termination review by the responsible agency.
Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan said this in a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).
“With the construction of eight bridges on the Lundu-Sampadi road that have been completed and the Pan Borneo Highway on the Moyan-Telok Melano route expected to be fully completed by year-end, the delay of the Batang Rambungan bridge is considered as the ‘missing link’.
“I hope that the agencies responsible for the project can take appropriate action to ensure that construction can be resumed as soon as possible,” he said during a breaking fast ceremony yesterday (April 3).
Early last month, the Public Works Department (JKR) was urged to monitor the Batang Rambungan Bridge construction project, which is critically delayed by 42 per cent from its original schedule.
Sarawak Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure Development) Aidel Lariwoo made the call after the project, which is worth RM98.5 million and was launched on Nov 24, 2019, is recording slow progress for the third time.
Aidel said lack of manpower and project implementation methods were identified as the main factors.
Meanwhile, during the ceremony, Azizul also presented Ramadan donations to 35 recipients in the constituency consisting of cash and food aid.
He said that the tradition of giving donations to the less fortunate in the constituency is not new as it was something that his late father, Pehin Sri Adenan Satem, more affectionately known as ‘Tok Nan’, practised long ago. — DayakDaily
