Batang Lupar MP hopes restoring Sarawak’s rights continue as main agenda under ‘Keluarga Malaysia’ govt

Dato Sri Rohani Abdul Karim

KUCHING, Sept 20: Batang Lupar MP Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim hopes the current government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will continue to restore Sarawak’s rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

According to Rohani, former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had acknowledged that Sarawak is a region (wilayah), which he would help to return its rights.

“The word ‘region’ which is given to Sarawak will not have any implication on the actual status if the rights of this State as enshrined in MA63 are not restored.

“Nevertheless, I believe that the Keluarga Malaysia’s government under the leadership of Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will make this as one of its main agendas, as announced in his speech during his visit to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah recently,” she said in her speech during the fourth term of the 14th Parliamentary session held today.

On April 1, 2021, Muhyiddin has acknowledged Sarawak as a region according to the MA63 instead of just a State.

He also gave assurance that the establishment of the Special Council on MA63 (MKMA63) by the federal government is to ensure the fine examination of all related matters pertaining to MA63 to guarantee the fair and equitable rights of Sarawakians be preserved continuously. – DayakDaily
