KUCHING, June 17: Newly-elected Selangau MP Baru Bian has thanked former Selangau MP Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun for helping him capture the seat in the May 9 general election.
The Ba ‘Kelalan assemblyman also said strong support from his supporters and voters had led to his victory.
Speaking at a “ngiling bidai” ceremony in Rumah Jelaping in Tatau yesterday, he pledged to help bring more development to the constituency, especially basic infrastructure.
He urged the community leaders and longhouse chiefs to let him know what their respective areas needed.
He told the about 1,300 people – from seven longhouses – present that he understood that Selangau was a big area and that some interior regions such as Sg Kakus, Ulu Anap and Ulu Sangan were still using river as the main mode of transportation.
“Due to its vast geographical size, it is still difficult to bring electricity supply in and to build roads. However, I will try my best to address the problem,” he said
Baru, who is also Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leader, also urged Selangau folk to pay due attention to education.
Noting that the constituency has three secondary schools and 37 primary schools, he said these would enable the children to receive proper education.
“I hope the people of Selangau will continue to emphasise on the education of your children.”
To ensure Selangau enjoy greater development, he hoped to have the support of Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira and Kakus assemblyman Datuk John Sikie.
Baru also called on Selangau folk to support Pakatan Harapan’s transformation vision. At the gathering, Baru received about 600 applications to join PKR. — DayakDaily
