Baru Bian wins first seat for PSB with majority of 680 votes

KUCHING, Dec 18: N81 Ba’kelalan incumbent Baru Bian of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), has retained his seat with 2,687 votes, over Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Sam Laya who garnered 2,007 votes.

Baru has been an incumbent of Ba’kelalan since 2011 under the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) ticket.

His simple majority of 680 votes managed to beat four other candidates and is the first seat won by PSB in this 12th Sarawak Election thus far.

The three other candidates, Pita Asut @ Peter Asut of Parti Bumi Kenyalang (110 votes), Martin Labo of PKR (57 votes) and independent candidate Agnes Padan (55 votes), all lost their deposits.

In 2016, he won against Willie Liau (Barisan Nasional) by 538 votes.

Baru, a lawyer by profession, is also Selangau MP. — DayakDaily
