KUCHING, Sept 9: Sarawak and Sabah’s rights to resources within their territories will withstand any legal challenge, says Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Yuen.

Dr Yii in a statement today said that legal judgment in court is probably what is needed to put rest to all different interpretations and disputes over the matter including facilitate proper return of both regions’ rights and resources.

“All Sarawak and Sabah wants are to have what is rightfully ours and ensure we get equitable development for all our people to ensure all regardless of region, race, religion or class can enjoy the fruits and riches of our land,” he said.

He was responding to a report that national oil corporation Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) is contemplating a court injunction on their dispute or over supervision of oil and gas trading.

Dr Yii pointed out that Sarawak and Sabah’s rights to their resources are agreed upon under Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

He said such demands are not above and beyond what rightfully belongs to the two regions and should not be seen as a politically matter but legal matter concerning the basis and foundation of the formation of Malaysia. — DayakDaily
