KUCHING, June 5: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii has launched the P195 Power Pickle Programme, a free pickleball training initiative offering weekly sessions throughout June for youths under 25, aimed at promoting active lifestyles, reducing screen time, and fostering social and teamwork skills among the younger generation.

According to a press release by Dr Yii, the programme will run on four consecutive Saturdays (June 7, 14, 21, and 28) from 10am to 12pm at Pickle Pro Court, Tabuan Laru.

Dr Yii said participants will be coached by experienced trainers, with all necessary equipment provided.

“With only 32 slots available, the programme operates on a first-come, first-served basis to ensure each participant receives quality guidance and attention.

“Interested youths are encouraged to register via the link available on my official Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/DrKelvinYii,” he said.

Dr Yii further emphasised that physical activity is vital for youth development, expressing hope that programmes like this will inspire more young Sarawakians to take up healthy and engaging recreational sports.

“Pickleball is a fast-growing sport that blends elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong.

“Its simple rules and dynamic gameplay make it accessible and enjoyable for players of all ages and skill levels.

“The sport has already seen significant growth internationally, especially in North America and Asia, and is steadily gaining traction in Malaysia as a fun, family-friendly form of exercise.”

He added that the programme not only improves participants’ physical coordination and reflexes but also strengthens bonds among peers and families through shared activities and friendly competition. — DayakDaily
