KUCHING, Sept 1: Baleh assemblyman Nicholas Kudi Jantai is withdrawing from the contest for the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief to focus instead on securing one of the party’s vice president posts in its upcoming triennial delegates conference (TDC)
He stated that the decision was made after considering the views of party members, grassroots leaders, and the current needs of the party.
“I believe I can contribute more effectively at this level while also giving way to Murum assemblyman Chukpai Ugon and Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang to contest for the Youth chief position,” he said in a statement.
He said that his focus is to strengthen and revitalise the party by fostering unity, consolidating the leadership team, and ensuring that PRS continues to move forward in line with the people’s aspirations.
“I also support efforts to provide greater opportunities for new leaders to play a more significant role in the party.
“Now is the time for us to unite and reignite the party’s spirit. With the support of all members, I believe PRS can move forward with renewed strength and be well-prepared to face the political and developmental challenges ahead.
“I humbly seek the support of delegates at the upcoming TDC this October so that we can work together to strengthen PRS and move forward as one united team,” he said.
Similarly, on Sunday (Aug 31), Lubok Antu MP Roy Angau Gingkoi, who initially wanted to contest the party’s Youth chief, also withdrew to focus on one of the vice president posts.
Roy explained that he came to the decision following stronger grassroots support for him to contest the vice president’s post.
At the same time, he also backed Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon for the Youth chief post, in which Chukpai also expressed open support for Roy’s candidacy as a sign of solidarity.
With this, it appears that only Chukpai and Gira remain as candidates for the Youth chief post, in which its current holder, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, has decided not to defend as he had set his sights on the party’s deputy president post. — DayakDaily
