BALAI RINGIN, Aug 30: Balai Ringin has been proposed as a satellite town, with an allocation of RM55 million from the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA).
In a TVS news report, Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan said the proposal was part of a long-term plan to develop the area in a more systematic and organised manner.
“This is because the area is located in the Serian Division. Therefore, I have proposed a new satellite town using the RM55 million allocation from GKCDA.
“Secondly, I have proposed a new Integrated Emergency Centre (IEC) in Pantu, which has also been approved by the Sarawak government,” he said to reporters after officiating the GKCDA Balai Ringin constituency Completed Project — Jalan Melikin Upgrading Project at the Kampung Danau Keranggas Community Hall here on Saturday (Aug 29).
Snowdan said the development plan should consider residents’ needs and the area’s future growth potential, including incorporating surrounding areas to create more systematic and integrated development.
Meanwhile, he said youth facilities were also being planned through the construction of a Youth Centre in the second phase, next to the mini stadium.
He said the centre would offer vocational, technical and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes, as well as STEM and robotics.
“In addition, we have proposed the establishment of a digital hub at SMK Balai Ringin, which is expected to benefit about 2,000 students while expanding access to digital skills among the younger generation,” he said. — DayakDaily
