KUCHING, June 29: The construction of the Balai Ringin Mini Stadium not only marks a new chapter in sports infrastructure development but also stands as a symbol of the Sarawak government’s commitment to strengthening holistic development for rural communities.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) report, Sarawak Minister for Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said the project is more than just about providing sports facilities — it serves as a catalyst for social and economic transformation, particularly in the areas of Balai Ringin, Serian, and Simunjan.
“This stadium reflects the government’s strong dedication to developing communities through sports, entrepreneurship, and character building.
“It will be a platform to unlock youth potential, strengthen community spirit, and produce a competitive and disciplined generation,” he said during the stadium’s official inauguration ceremony today.
Construction of the stadium began in 2021, and it is equipped with modern facilities, including a main stage and spectator seating, a multipurpose hall for badminton and sepak takraw, two futsal courts, a full-sized football field, a running track, and field event facilities such as shot put and long jump areas.
Abdul Karim added that the stadium is also planned to serve as a centre for implementing various youth and entrepreneurship programmes, including youth bazaars, skills training, event management, and leadership development.
“Sports are not just for health and recreation, but also a field to build character, discipline, and resilience among rural youth in facing future challenges,” he added.
At the same event, he also presented appointment certificates to 13 village chiefs and handed over Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) aid cheques totalling RM150,000 to two churches, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting the development of multiracial and multi-faith communities.
Sarawak Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datuk Snowdan Lawan; representative of the Permanent Secretary of the Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED), Dolhadi Marzuki; Sri Aman Division Resident, Mahra Salleh; Serian Division Resident, Caroline Cleophas Joseph; and Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Susan Clement Ingun, were also present. — DayakDaily
