Bakat Kamek 2019: Perey wins stand-up comedy, Lydia bags singing category

KUCHING, Dec 21: Comedy duo Perey won the inaugural Bakat Kamek 2019 competition in the stand-up comedy category, while Lydia Shafrina Suhaili emerged champion in the singing category.

Bakat Kamek final concert at the Old State Legislative Assembly (DUN) building on Friday evening saw “Pakwe Rangers”, consisting Mohamad Noranzizul Baili and Khairul Azhar Sirat, and “Nyo Duak”, made up of Shrulamyra Mohammad and Abdul Hafiz Rasit, winning the second and third place respectively in the stand-up comedy categories.


Perey meanwhile, is made up of Mazlan Rosli and Ashwandy Mohamad Zaidil.

In the singing category, Mohd Fizal Setu took second place, while Nurul’ain Abdullah Bolhassan, or popularly known as Kajol, came in third.

Winners in both categories took home RM3,000 in cash prizes, trophy and scholarship sponsorship respectively. The first runner up received RM2,000 and third placing won RM1,000 in cash prizes among others.

The evening also awarded Mohamad Aqmal Redza Abdul Gani for Best Vocal, while Perey bagged Best Performance. The winners received a smartphone.

“Winners of the event will walk away with RM50,000 in scholarships, which is a joint initiative by SIDMA College Sarawak and UNIRAZAK. All the top six winners will also stand an opportunity to pursue their education in SIDMA College Sarawak,” the event organiser said in a statement.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg presented the prizes to the winners.

“Bakat Kamek”, going by a reality show concept and the first of such competition in Sarawak, is a youth talent development programme under the Sarawak government’s Old Kuching Smart Heritage initiative in collaboration with Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) and Unit Komunikasi Awam Sarawak in line with the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint (2018-2020).

The main objective of the programme was to provide an ecosystem for the entertainment and creative content industry in Sarawak, to engage and create a platform for commercialisation of the talent and to develop creative digital contents for the promotion and visibility for the local talents.

It is also to set up local talents database specifically within Sarawak creative industry and ensure digital inclusivity among local Sarawakians.

The audition of Bakat Kamek 2019 begun on Aug 24-25 and attracted some 380 talents from across the state. From the first auditions, 46 contestants were chosen and screened by the professional juries for the next level commercial talent development in musical, creative content and entertainment industry with the categories of singing and stand-up comedy.

These 46 contestants were then enrolled into the Bakat Kamek talent development programme, where they were trained on the creative content and entertainment industry syllabus by professional trainers. — DayakDaily
