KUCHING, Aug 3: Only students from low income families under the B40 group are exempted from paying the RM500 deposit before checking into quarantine centres.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the deposit and total quarantine costs would only be free for these B40 students when they make appeals to the officers at the respective quarantine centres or hotels.

He also asserted that these students would not need to wait around idly to be checked in after their appeals.

“They don’t have to wait at hotel lobbies and so on for the applications. They will be sent directly to Institut Latihan Awam (Public Training Institutes) for their stay,” said Ismail Sabri in a press conference today.

In stating this, he disclosed that foreign ministries-in-charge have agreed to record the details of Malaysian returnees before they depart back to the country.

“Before they return to Malaysia, they will be required to register themselves, write down their personal details including their family income.

“If they were found to be under the B40 group, foreign ministries will send the list to NADMA (National Disaster Management Agency).

“So, when they arrive in Malaysia to be sent for quarantine, NADMA already has the details,” he said. — DayakDaily
