SIBU, Jan 15: As floods continue to disrupt daily life in central Sarawak, authorities have stepped in to ensure that students can sit for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations without interruption.

The operation, involving the Civil Defence Force (APM), Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), was carried out after rising floodwaters rendered the route impassable, APM reported.

In another instance, six students from Sg Assan were ferried to SMK Lanang, while in Kanowit, four students and eight teachers were safely transported to SMK Sedaya.

In another development, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) reported receiving a call from a teacher at SMK Kapit requesting assistance to transport a female student from her home to the school dormitory due to floodwaters rising up to four feet on the access road.

Bomba deployed a fiber boat to safely transport the student.

The collaborative effort between the agencies ensured everyone reached their destinations without incident, using lorries, four-wheel-drive (4WD) and a fibre boat, to navigate flooded roads. – DayakDaily
