Authorities arrest caretaker, seize illegal alcohol worth RM256,860 in Serian

SERIAN, Jan 16: A 54-year-old man was arrested in relation to a seizure of contraband alcohol worth a total of RM256,860 during Ops Libas in Serian.

General Operations Force (GOF) 11th Batallion commanding officer Supt Rosdi in a statement revealed the operation was carried out based on intelligence by six officers from the 11th Battalion led by an intelligence officer at noon yesterday on premises and a van, in Bukar-Sadong Land District in Serian.

“A total of 970 crates of beer of various brands was hidden inside the premises (842 crates), and the van (128 crates) that was parked behind the premises.


“Investigations found that a 54-year-old, who admitted that he was the caretaker of the premises, failed to produce any legal documentation in relation to the contraband that was found on the premises and he was arrested for further action.”

Rosdi also revealed the suspect was handed over to the Serian district police headquarters to facilitate investigation under the Section 135(1) (d) of Customs Act 1967.

“Based on information received, it is believed that the contraband was smuggled from a neighbouring country to be sold for the local market,” he added.

Rosdi also advised the local community to always cooperate with the authorities, especially the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), to prevent any criminal activities. — DayakDaily
