KUCHING, Jan 16: Sarawak Federation of Women’s Institute (SFWI) is calling avid runners to join its Black Pink Run on March 21, which aims to raise RM100,000 for its women empowerment programme.

SFWI Kuching-Samarahan exco member Hamdiah Mat said the run, divided to 3km and 5km open categories, will be held at Metrocity here.

Limited to 1,500 participants, Black Pink Run has already attracted 500 registered runners as of yesterday, Jan 15.

Hamdiah said those interested to participate in the event may register through the “Jomrun” mobile app, which can be downloaded via Google Play store or Apple store.

“The main objective of this run is raise funds for SFWI Kuching-Kota Samarahan to empower the capacity of women from the Kuching and Kota Samarahan areas, through programmes organised by SFWI, especially entrepreneurship, health and wellbeing, as well as social, welfare and skills training.

“We hope to raise about RM100,000 to support our cause and objectives,” she told a press conference here today.

Hamdiah was representing SFWI chairperson Datuk Norhyati Mohd Ismail.

She added that running was chosen as the first activity to open the association’s calendar year of events, considering that it has become a very popular physical and recreational activity in Sarawak.

The love for running has spread wide among SFWI members, she continued.

“Themed ‘Love Helping Community’, we hope this kind of event can help us strengthen ties, improve our health and at the same time, raise funds for SFWI Kuching-Samarahan.”

Hamdiah said there will also be stalls selling various products at the event venue, which provides members an opportunity to make some income.

Registration for the 5km category is RM50 per person for early bird rate and RM60 for normal price, while the 3km category is RM40 for early bird and RM50 for normal price.

The 5km run will be flagged off at 6am, while the 3km will start at 6.30am, subject to weather conditions.

SFWI members who wished to participate may register by filling out the forms manually, she continued.

Registration closes on March 12. Participants can collect their t-shirts, “love shades”, race bibs and vouchers on March 16-17 at Lea Centre at Sarawak Plaza.
