KUCHING, Dec 16: Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah says Sarawak is taking strategic approach to tourism growth by attracting more quality tourism and accelerating the development of its creative industry.
“When we plan our strategy, we want to look beyond the numbers and observe the tourists that we are promoting Sarawak to. We want quality tourist,” he said during the Fireside Forum: Driving Growth in Sarawak Socio-Economic Front held in conjunction with the 2026 Sarawak Budget Conference here today.
He also pointed out that Sarawak is focusing on accelerating the development major tourism infrastructures such as Sarawak Performing Arts Centre which is expected to be completed by early 2027.
These facilities are set help to position Sarawak in tapping potential of creative industries.
Abdul Karim further highlighted Sarawak’s efforts in developing local talent, with artisans and creatives being sent overseas to refine their skills.
“We have sent our artisans and talents overseas to polish and harness their skills.
“I want to build up the level of confidence of all these artisans,” he added.
He also noted that Sarawak’s tourism performance continues to show positive momentum with the State recording 4.42 million tourist arrivals as of November this year, generating tourism receipts totalling RM11.25 billion. – DayakDaily
