KUCHING, Aug 15: The curtain will fall on the Kuching Festival 2025 this Sunday (Aug 17) with a breathtaking fusion of science and the performing arts in Meniti Cakerawala 2.0, featuring Malaysia’s first astrophysicist Tan Sri Mazlan Othman and internationally acclaimed dance legend Datuk Ramli Ibrahim.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, in announcing the festival’s closing act during a press conference today, said the production would be an extraordinary experience that blends astronomy, space exploration, storytelling, music, poetry and dance into one captivating performance.

“Meniti Cakerawala 2.0 is more than just a performance—it is science meeting art, fact meeting beauty, and knowledge meeting emotion,” Wee said, adding that Kuching was proud to be one of eight stops on the Malaysia Tour 2025, alongside Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Kota Kinabalu.

He urged the community to come together to celebrate the festival’s success and witness the brilliance of Meniti Cakerawala 2.0, which is made possible through MBKS’ collaboration with Delphic Malaysia.

The 90-minute show will be staged at MBKS Theatre in Kuching Park at 7.45pm, with free admission on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Sutra Foundation dancers, under Datuk Ramli’s masterful choreography, will “transform the stage into a living constellation” while Tan Sri Mazlan’s narration will take audiences on a journey through the cosmos, exploring humanity’s connection to the universe.

Wee who is also the Delphic Malaysia advisor, further revealed that the international appeal of the work had already been recognised when an eight-minute excerpt was featured at the prestigious Lincoln Center in New York during the 35th New York Dance Festival.

“Having Malaysia represented on such a stage is a point of pride, and for Kuching to host the full performance is truly special,” he stated.

Since opening on July 25, the Kuching Festival has drawn thousands of visitors to enjoy food, music, dance, cultural shows and family activities, creating what Wee described as “a celebration of who we are—a city that values culture, creativity and community spirit”.

Wee encouraged festival-goers to arrive early to enjoy the food stalls one last time before the grand finale.

Also present were MBKS deputy mayor Dato Zaiedi Suhaili, MBKS councillor Chai Ju Loon, and Malaysian Delphic Arts and Culture Association president Vicky Fong. — DayakDaily
