KUCHING, Dec 2: Sarawak Business Events Association and the Malaysian Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (MACEOS) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to transform Sarawak into a prominent player in the business events (BE) industry, both regionally and globally.

According to a press release, MACEOS president Datuk Dr M Gandhi recently spearheaded a high-profile visit to Sarawak, which included strategic networking sessions with industry stakeholders and the unveiling of forward-thinking initiatives to catalyse the State’s BE ecosystem.

To achieve this, the Association has rolled out a multi-faceted approach focusing on strengthening partnerships with local stakeholders to leverage Sarawak’s unique assets and enhancing Sarawak’s talent pool by working with academia, government agencies, and industry experts to deliver tailored training, mentorship programs, and professional certifications.

The Sarawak Chapter of MACEOS, led by Premala Danapakiam, Chair of the Sarawak Chapter and Director of Sales & Marketing at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), is spearheading outreach programs in Sibu and Miri to expand opportunities and foster partnerships.

“Sarawak has immense potential, and through our Sarawak Chapter, we aim to amplify its presence on the national stage.

“We encourage more Sarawak-based companies to engage actively in MACEOS discussions and events beyond the State,” Gandhi said following the MOU signing ceremony held at BCCK today.

MACEOS Vice President for Education, Mona Abdul Manap, who is also chief executive officer of Place Borneo Sdn Bhd, is championing efforts to provide greater industry exposure for students and young professionals. This includes tailored training programs designed to meet the specific needs of Sarawak’s BE landscape.

The association’s focus on sustainability and innovation aligns with Malaysia’s national agenda. Collaborations with academia and stakeholders have led to the development of Green Event Guidelines, set to launch in May 2025, showcasing Sarawak’s commitment to hosting environmentally responsible business events.

In line with Malaysia’s upcoming Business Events Standards, expected in 2025, MACEOS is encouraging Sarawak industry players to adopt these benchmarks, raising the quality and professionalism of the region’s BE offerings. — DayakDaily
