KUCHING, April 11: The Association of Sarawak Bumiputera Consulting Engineers plans to establish a centre of excellence in Sarawak.

According to a news report published by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the association’s chairman Irwan Zulkarnain Muhammad Hasbie said the centre of excellence would be a place to train members of the association to improve the quality of their services.

“We want to establish a centre of excellence where we will do workshop courses related to engineering and technical courses,” Irwan told reporters after paying a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

He said the centre of excellence will eventually house a variety of software and equipment for its members to use to provide engineering services.

“We also require a centre of excellence where we will house a variety of software and equipment that our members may not be able to afford, and we will use a sharing system in which they will use the software at a reduced rate in order to perform engineering services,” he added.

Irwan also disclosed that the courtesy visit was held to introduce the association’s new committee.

He said that during the visit, the Premier of Sarawak was also invited to grace the association’s anniversary dinner and at the same time present the Excellence Award for Bumiputera consulting engineers on June 16, 2023 at The Waterfront Hotel Kuching.

Also present at the courtesy visit were Sarawak Bumiputera Consulting Engineers Association’s former chairman and advisor Talha Affendi, deputy chairman Dato Winsel Ahtos, secretary Noorazan Morshidi, treasurer Zamhuri Drahman, and other committee members. — DayakDaily
