Assistant minister: Chong still in denial of DAP Sarawak’s defeat in 12th Sarawak Election

KUCHING, Jan 3: An Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department has hit back at Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chief Chong Chieng Jen over his notion that Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) strong majority will endorse Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg “to do as he wishes” and “unprecedented concentration of power”.

Corporate Affairs and Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) Assistant Minister Datuk Abdullah Saidol said Chong was still in denial over the fact that the overwhelming support secured by GPS should be acknowledged and translated as an endorsement of confidence and faith by the people upon Abang Johari’s able leadership.

“GPS’ track record especially during the pandemic was proven to be a reliable government and undoubtedly capable of delivering much more better things for Sarawak especially in protecting her rights and interest.

“On the other hand, DAP’s staggering defeat should be shouldered by Chong as a glaring testimony of people’s despair and rejection of DAP being an absolutely hopeless leadership and unworthy of any trust,” he said in a statement today.

The Semop assemblyman further reminded Chong on the resignation of a senior member of Sarawak DAP which was believed due to “too much concentration of power vested and authoritarian attitude of a leader in DAP itself”.

Abdullah said whilst GPS government was going all out to deliver all sorts of relief aid and managing people’s welfare, Pakatan Harapan (PH) government including DAP leaders like Chong was mostly occupied with internal leadership struggle, political turmoil and commotion.

He added that it was due to PH’s doing that the country witnessed unprecedented experience of having three prime ministers within three years after winning the federal election.

“Instead of finding ways to assist the people, the then Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng who is a DAP leader, was busy going around the country telling people that the federal government has no money and giving all sort of comical excuses not to fulfill their promises.

“We can forgive their political bluffing but we Sarawakians will never forget his unscrupulous assumption that Sarawak will go bankrupt if GPS government continues to come up with big budget to develop the State,” he said.

Abdullah also alleged that Chong is in desperate attempt to conceal and divert the attention of DAP’s badly injured image and defeat.

“I must admit that the newly formed post-pandemic State Cabinet is facing peculiar challenges in continuing with all development plans for the State, but we in GPS are fully committed, adjusted to the new norm and fully prepared not to disappoint the people and fulfil the people’s hope especially the rural folks,” he emphasised. – DayakDaily
