KUCHING, July 6: The state government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) should focus on the state’s economic recovery, said Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) president Lina Soo.
According to Soo, Sarawakians are now suffering from economic devastation from the Covid-19 pandemic and many had lost their income because they were not able to carry out their small businesses or keep up with their housing mortgages and credit cards.
“For GPS to take advantage of the situation to win elections is cruel and inhumane. Politics and elections should be the last thing on their minds now,” she said in a statement today.
Soo also noted that she has received complaints from the public that their appeals under the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) packages had gone unattended and many Sarawakians did not receive the payouts and were left out.
She said the unemployed graduates, farmers and petty traders are suffering while the jungle produce paddlers who tried to make a few ringgit have been harassed and had their jungle produce confiscated.
“Sarawak students have to climb trees and stay overnight with ants to keep up with school and exams and the tourism sectors that are suffering are just told to leave the industry.
“It is time GPS look seriously into the plight of the poor and the communities that have been left out, the small businesses sector which are struggling and plan our economic recovery than just think of winning elections,” she added. –DayakDaily.
