Ashley Lau among 11 S’wakian athletes receive high praise from Minister for outstanding achievements

KUCHING, May 14: Sarawak Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has expressed his congratulations to 11 Sarawakian athletes for their impressive accomplishments both locally and internationally.

According to Abdul Karim, Ashley Lau is Malaysia’s No. 1 Women’s Golfer, with a 237th Rolex Women’s World Golf Ranking, and Mirabel Ting is the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, with an 11th place-world ranking, and she will represent Sarawak in the upcoming Malaysia Games (Sukma).

“Gillian Lim Siew Gok recently won Champion in the Women’s Open Masters Final in the 42nd Malaysian International Open Bowling Championship 2024, while Nur Hazirah Ramli ranked top 16th Youth World Cup held on January 19 to January 26, 2024, in Peru and won Champion in Girls Open Category in 42nd Malaysian International Open Bowling Championship 2024

“Muhammad Johan Ghazali Zulfikar (Jojo), a professional Muay Thai fighter, will compete in the upcoming One Championship Friday Night in Bangkok, Thailand on June 7, 2024.

“Cordelia Wee Li Xin won the 6th World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) Open International Adult Solo Latin Category and won third place in the Malaysia DanceSport Federation (MYDF) National Closed Adult Solo Latin,” he said during his ministerial winding-up speech on the seventh day of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting here today.

He went on to say that Bertrand Rhodict Lises is the first Malaysian athlete to have qualified for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics in Diving, Bonnie Bunyau Gustin has qualified for the Paris 2024 Summer Paralympics in Powerlifting, and Jong Yee Khie has qualified for the Paris 2024 Summer Paralympics in Powerlifting.

Abdul Karim further highlighted that Muhammad Nur Syaiful Bin Zulkafli has qualified for the Paris 2024 Summer Paralympics in Swimming, and Abdul Razzaq Abdul Rahman has qualified for the Paris 2024 Summer Paralympics in Boccia. — DayakDaily
