KUCHING, March 24: An underground cable project in the Asajaya area is expected to be completed by June of this year, benefiting 70,000 residents, including Sadong Jaya and Sebuyau.

As per a news report from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the Deputy Minister for Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Rubiah Wang, stated that the project will address the issue of frequent power outages in the affected areas, particularly during the festive season.

Given the early celebration of Hari Raya this year, Rubiah, who is also Kota Samarahan MP, has requested Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sarawak Energy) to boost the electricity supply capacity during the festive season.

Rubiah made the remarks during a press conference after officiating at the Kota Samarahan Parliamentary Constituency (Asajaya Zone) ‘Pautan Kasih’ programme held in Asajaya on Saturday (March 23).

She also expressed her displeasure with previous residents’ reports, stating that they frequently experience power outages on festival days each year.

During the programme, Rubiah distributed Hari Raya Aidilfitri donations to 264 ‘asnaf’ (less fortunate) groups to help them prepare for the upcoming festivities.

Residents who attended the programme were also given approximately 500 packs of ‘bubur pedas’ (spicy mixed porridge).

Rubiah further commented that the federal and state governments remained committed to continuing to provide assistance to target groups to help them with the rising cost of living.

Also present were Asajaya district officer Rais Ahmat, Samarahan Division Temenggung Chek Bujang, and Kampung Sebandi Matang village chief Bahrin Sahmat. — DayakDaily
