KUCHING, Jan 22: Speculations continue to swirl that Sarawak Governor (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud who is turning 88-years-old, is set to end his tenure later this month.

In light of these rumours, Julau Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Larry Sng Wei Shien has issued a statement prematurely thanking Taib for his service to the country.

Sng described Taib as a man with vision and had political acumen like no other leader Sarawak has experienced as the longest-serving Chief Minister in the history of Sarawak at 33 years.

ā€œYet in many ways, he was kind and loved by the people he governed and also feared by his enemies,ā€ Sng said in a statement today.

Sng who is Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president further said that Taib was his mentor who has given him the opportunity and direction to rise in politics.

ā€œI was given the candidacy to stand for election at 21-years-old and was later appointed as an Assistant Minister in the State government three years later.

ā€œI was given good sincere advice and guidance every time and he never forgot his promises unlike other politicians today. He has very good memory and almost always delivers.

ā€œDespite being young and inexperienced then, I was given the time and space to learn and execute my assignments,ā€ he added.

Sng also disclosed that during the political upheavals in his then political party, Taib had always gave him face in public even though he spent many years in cold storage.

ā€œWhen I left in 2011, after failing to get the BN (Barisan Nasional) candidacy I felt no remorse or ill will towards the man till this day.

ā€œI wish him a good, long and healthy life with showers of blessings from above,ā€ he added. ā€” DayakDaily
