MIRI, Nov 19: The Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association (PVATM) Miri branch is looking for financial grants to help its members who need access to medical healthcare facilities and welfare assistance.

According to the branch chairperson Nelus Nyelang, lack of consistent financial support has deterred the association’s efforts to provide help to its members.

“In fact, we also facing difficulties in managing and maintaining the association’s office in Piasau, because of inconsistent financial funding,” he disclosed last night, during PVATM Miri’s 40th anniversary celebration.

At the event, the association received two wheelchairs, donated by an anonymous donor. More than 30 of its members were present at the event.

Also present were Cr Leslie Lau who was representing Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I (Tourism) Datuk Sebastian Ting, Camp Sri Miri 20th Battalion Commanding Officer Lt Colonel Mohd Firdaus Mohd Yatim and heads of various agencies.

Currently, the association has a total of 450 registered members. Most of them served during Sarawak’s Communist insurgency and Malaysia-Indonesia Confrontation (1963–1966). — DayakDaily
