BALAI RINGIN, April 3: The Malaysian Army is building three new posts along the Malaysian-Indonesian border this year.
Chief of Army General Datuk Seri Mohammad Ab Rahman said Malaysia has 17 existing border posts in Sarawak and Sabah.
“The three new posts currently undergoing construction are Rapak Baru Post in Sri Aman, Tetangga Akrab Post in Serian and Mengkalap Post in Limbang.
“We will have more border posts carried out in stages. This year, we will focus on the three posts. Then, next year, we will build two more posts,” he told reporters during his work visit to Balai Ringin Tactical Camp today.
He also thanked the Sarawak government for the latter’s support in assisting the army, especially regarding land acquisition to develop the border posts.
He also visited a new border post at Batu Kaya Post near Lubok Antu, which was completed on July 31, 2022.
“We already have an existing post in Lubok Antu, but this new post is closer to the border.
“The older Lubok Antu Post is about five to seven kilometres away from the border, while Batu Kaya Post is the nearest to the border and not far from our immigration post,” he added.
He also mentioned that he was supposed to visit the new Padang Pan Post on the same day, but the helicopter trip had to be cancelled due to bad weather.
Also present were Army Field East Commander Lt Gen Datuk Mardzuki Muhammad, First Division Infantry Commander Major Gen Hassan Embong, Assistant Chief of Staff Operations and Training (ACOS OPLAT) Major Gen Malek Razak Sulaiman, Third Brigade Infantry commander Brig Gen Mohd Kamil Abdul Latiff and Balai Ringin Tactical Camp chief Col Willie Chahat. — DayakDaily
