KUCHING, March 5: Former Batu Kawah elected representative Christina Chiew is worried about armed robberies that she claimed is rampant in Sungai Moyan, Batu Kawah.

Chew said she had written to Padawan police to hold a dialogue session with Sungai Moyan residents at SJK Chung Hua Sungai Moyan tomorrow.

“The main purpose of this dialogue is to impart useful tips to the residents to prevent robberies and break-ins,” she told reporters during a joint conference with Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong at DAP Headquarters here today.

She urged the residents and community leaders, irrespective of their political affiliations, to attend the dialogue sessions, adding that Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Chong Chieng Jen would also be present.

The latest armed robbery in Sungai Moyan occurred on Feb 26, she said. Three armed robbers, all wearing masks, broke into a house in the wee hours that morning.

According to Chew, the robbers’ modus operandi upon gaining entry into a house is to go to the bedrooms and tie up the victims before relieving them of their valuables.

“Usually these robbers are armed with kitchen knives. These horrifying incidents have prompted the victims to seek my assistance as they fear for their safety,” she said. — DayakDaily
