KUCHING, Nov 1: The approval for the application for Sarawak native status under the Interpretation (Amendment) Ordinance 2022 which came into effect today is determined by the Administrative Unit at the Sarawak Premier’s Department.
According to Kuching Resident Norleha Shariff, each application is evaluated on the 15th day of every month.
She stated that applications submitted to any District Office will be reviewed and verified by District Officers and Residents within three to seven working days.
“After that, we will send it to the Administrative Unit at the Sarawak Premier’s Department for review and to be assessed whether it is approved or not.
“And on every 15th day of the month they will hold a meeting chaired by Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; approval to be made at this meeting,” said Norleha when met.
Earlier, she held a discussion with a group of associations, organisations, and community leaders led by Dato Ose Murang at the Kuching Resident’s Office here today.
If approved, Norleha added, the Administrative Unit at the Sarawak Premier’s Department will issue a Sarawak native status certificate to the applicant.
Applications for recognition as Sarawak natives can be made at any District Office in Sarawak, with a fee of RM100 per application.
“In accordance with the provisions of the Interpretation (Amendment) Ordinance 2022, the eligibility criteria for any person to be recognised as Sarawak native is that he/she must be a Malaysian citizen, a biological child born to someone from the Sarawak native community, and one of his/her parents is a Sarawak native,” said Norleha. — DayakDaily
