SIBU, July 16: The State Civil Defense Force (APM) is expected to open 10 more district operational control centers in its effort to further improve the effectiveness of its emergency services and humanitarian assistance.

Its director, Abdul Wahab Rahim said with the additional 10 centers, they would be able to strengthen the role of the agency more comprehensively so as to meet the needs and spectrum of assignments that are growing today.

Abdul Wahab added that the average daily cases received by APM in the State is more than 100 cases, which warrants more centres.

“This year we will increase the number of our operational control centres. God willing, by the end of the year, we will have 10 more centers, which will enable us to provide better, speedier and efficient services to the people,” he told reporters at the Malaysian Civil Defense Force (APM) Sibu District ‘Frontliner’ Appreciation Dinner last night.

The new centres he said will be in Saratok, Kabong, Lubok Antu, Kanowit, Selangau, Tanjung Manis, Dalat and three other districts which will be identified later.

“We will place our members and necessary equipment at these 10 centres. The increase in these centres is based on the possible increase in population and development of each area. The number is very dynamic.

“For example, for our centre in Sibu, we currently have a staff strength of 30 to 36 members. But after this maybe the number of members will double, once we open a new centre in SibuJaya and other places,” he said. — DayakDaily
