KUCHING, Aug 26: October may be known for Halloween but starting from this year, it will also be known for Sarawak’s biggest ACG (Anime, Comic, and Games) convention – Otakyun! 2019.
Organising team Anime Gathering (AG) is bringing Otakyun! 2019 back on October 12 and 13, from 11am to 6pm, at CityONE Megamall Kuching with the theme “Bakumatsu” (a time-period in Japan between 1853-1867).
In a statement, AG said special guests cosplayers Angie (from Malaysia) and Jun (Hong Kong) will be here for the 2-day event.
AG described Angie as a Malaysian cosplayer who also works as a fashion designer and illustrator.
“Her cosplay career started in 2008. Her latest event as a special guest was when she attended the DoKomi ACG in Germany last June where she cosplayed in her own interpretation of Red Riding Hood.”
Meanwhile, AG said Jun who hails from Hong Kong (HK), only started becoming a cosplayer guest in ACG events in 2015.
“He freelances as a Makeup Artist and during his latest event in HK last July, he cosplayed as Andromeda Shun from Saint Seiya.”
Aside from that, resident feature cosplayer and newly appointed Otakyun! ambassador Yugana Senshi Uon will also be returning to the event, to be joined by specially invited feature cosplayer for this year, Nessarose as well as artist and master doodler Kendylife.
This year is the first time that Otakyun! will be having cosplayer booths for cosplayers to sell their own merchandise and meet new fans.
This is to give cosplayers (veteran or new) a platform to meet likeminded people and develop their own style.
Due to the positive response from last year, the AG has brought back the Glitter Pack that contains entrance tickets for the two-day event and limited edition Otakyun! merchandise that are not for sale.
Not only that, buying a Glitter Pack also earns you a chance to win a limited VIP card that allows card holder to attend the meet and greet sessions with the special guest cosplayers Angie and Jun.
