KUCHING, March 29: The Covid-19 pandemic has led to an improvement in the environment by reducing pollution due to controlled human activities, despite the havoc it has created for the human race.

Social activist Dato Sri Ang Lai Soon opined this situation would only last for a few more years until environmental problems resurface once Covid-19 is contained.

Thus, he emphasised the importance of the annual Earth Hour environmental campaign which is to create public awareness on the seriousness of environmental issues confronting the whole world today.

“We must all be united to create a greener, more bearable and sustainable planet for future generations to come,” he said in a statement today.

Adding on, Ang opined climate change as the culprit of the extreme weather today is disturbing and has caused great hardships to billions of people worldwide, particularly lower income groups.

He said climate change is adding to the impact of the pandemic the loss of lives and property, along with adverse effects to the already battered economy.

“Earth Hour is a way to show that we really do care about our fragile environment, but even more importantly it serves to send a strong message to those in authority to end the much-feared air pollution around this time of the year and to end this annual repetitive blight on our lives and our health, by action both on the domestic front and in conjunction with our neighbouring countries,” said Ang. — DayakDaily
