KUCHING, July 11: Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has pledged that the remaining 712 students who achieved 10As in their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) will receive offers for matriculation by the third week of August.
She said the students would surely receive their offers, though in stages, and latest by mid-August because the Central University Admission Unit (UPU) intake falls on Aug 6, providing the students a choice between UPU and matriculation.
Recollecting the order of events, she said the first batch of successful candidates who received the offers were announced on June 20, and the selection process was based on a previous policy before June 30 when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that all excellent 10A SPM students would be offered into matriculation colleges.
After the announcement, Fadhlina said the Education Ministry worked together with the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia to ensure all 10A students are given the offers as promised by Anwar.
“The second intake started on July 5, and the students can apply today and tomorrow. After the second intake, the remaining students who are not offered will be given the offers straightaway until all eligible students get their offers,” she said.
Fadhlina was answering inquiries and concerns brought up by several MPs, one of which was Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, who is also Padungan assemblyman.
Chong, had on Tuesday (July 9), submitted an emergency motion in Parliament to request a debate session on the matter which is urgent and related to public concern. — DayakDaily
