Alexander Unya, Albert Tang, Toieyah Tioh sworn in to top Ombudsman roles to uphold state integrity

KUCHING, Aug 4: In a major step to enforce the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance 2023, three individuals have been sworn in to key roles aimed at strengthening integrity and accountability in state administration.

According to a TVS news report, Alexander Unya Ambon was appointed as Deputy Chief Ombudsman effective July 1, 2025, while Albert Tang Yew Liong and Toieyah Tioh were appointed as Ombudsmen effective June 22 and 23, respectively.

A swearing-in ceremony for the trio was held at 10am today at the Kuching High Court before the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak, Datuk Azizah Nawawi.

Also present at the ceremony was Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya.

The appointments were carried out in accordance with Section 7 of the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance 2023, which mandates that all individuals appointed to the posts must take an oath before officially discharging their duties.

This step reflects the Sarawak government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing integrity and good governance within the state’s administrative framework.

Sarawak created history as the first state in Malaysia to implement legislation related to an Ombudsman system following the passage of the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance 2023 by the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) on Nov 20, 2023. — DayakDaily
