Agong’s birthday remains public holiday on June 3, celebrations shift to Sept

KUCHING, May 17: The birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on June 3 this year will remain a public holiday, but the celebrations will be moved to September.

In a press release issued yesterday (May 16), the Prime Minister’s Department stated that in preparation for His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim’s coronation as Malaysia’s 17th King on July 20, June 3 had already been gazetted as the official birthday and a public holiday.

“However, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has granted permission for the celebrations to be postponed from June to September to make way for the coronation ceremony and other events associated with the coronation in July,” the press release stated.

The Prime Minister’s Department also stated that the government has appointed Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil as the minister in charge of the special committee on events surrounding His Majesty’s coronation ceremony.

The coronation of His Majesty will take place on July 20 at the Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur. — DayakDaily
