KUCHING, March 16: The Sri Aman Development Agency (SADA) has been tasked to develop the Wong Jaban Waterfall in Kampung Jaong and Wong Radak Waterfall in Kampung Tuba in Pantu, says Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performance Arts Sarawak Datuk Snowdan Lawan.
In a statement, Snowdan believed that these hidden gems could attract members of the public, especially picnicgoers.
Snowdan, who is also the chairman of the Infrastructure and Tourism Steering Committee, added that funds had been allocated to develop the two tourist attractions.
He elaborated that nature and adventure activities can also be explored as tourism products and to capitalise on the flora and fauna.
“In the long run, the spin-off effects will impact local economic activities such as handicrafts, cottages, cultural events, and overall tourism,” he said when officiating a seminar for grassroots leaders at Dewan Sri Pantu yesterday (March 15).
He said that more efforts should be made to make the Pantu district active, lively, and vibrant, in tandem with its elevation into a full district two years ago.
“Thus far, we have Pesta Pantu as a signature festival, which is held every year,” he said.
Snowdan, who is also Balai Ringgin assemblyman, also urged the local communities to collaborate with government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and the private sector to organise activities such as roadshows, seminars, sports events, carnivals, and exhibitions.
Deputy Resident Sri Aman Charlie Keling, Pantu District Officer Langgong Wasam, and community leaders were also present. — DayakDaily
