KUCHING, March 3: Can you imagine a family of 29 living together in a double-storey house?

This actually happened at Kampung Panglima Seman Lama prior to the Darul Hana Development project.

Housewife Dayang Sitti Dzurraidda Bolhassan, 39, said she has lived with her family in that house since birth.

Now, she is happily married with two children—one studying in a local university while the other is in Form 4.

“In Kampung Panglima Seman Lama, I live together with my mother and my four siblings as well as our relatives.

“Out of five siblings, four of us have married and we have our own offspring.

“Despite having 29 people living in a single house, we have our own rooms so it isn’t that bad. We still live comfortably because our house is quite big and spacious,” she told DayakDaily during the handing over of house keys to residents of Sungai Bedaun Resettlement at the site in Santubong here today.

Following the commencement of the Darul Hana Development project in 2011, Kampung Panglima Seman Lama was among 13 Malay villages in Seberang Hilir that were to be relocated to a new township.

Dayang Sitti said her mother has relocated to a new home at the new Darul Hana housing area while one of her siblings has been listed for a house unit under the next phase of the Sungai Bedaun Resettlement project.

“The rest of my siblings are also submitting their applications to buy houses in the same area for the next phases of this housing project,” she added.

Dayang Sitti also disclosed that her nuclear family is now renting in Bako and will only move into their new home sometime in June.

Expressing her excitement, she said having a house of their own would allow her family to have more privacy especially when her children are all grown up now.

“Despite living away from my mother, she can still visit and ‘berambeh’ (stay the night) at our new home or my siblings’. I am sure that she will visit our house every week and therefore, there is no issue,” she emphasised. – DayakDaily
