KUCHING, Sept 27: The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) wants those responsible for the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim to be brought to justice.
Bomba director-general Datuk Mohammad Hamdan Wahid expressed hope that the next process will follow through in seeking justice for Adib.
“As a civil servant, Muhammad Adib is a symbol of loyalty, commitment, sacrifice and dedication in fulfilling his responsibilities carried out to every race, religion and the nation.
“I would like to thank everyone, who came from all walks of life, for your concern, continuous strong support, and prayers for him and his case,” Hamdan said in a statement.
He was responding to the coroner’s findings at the court in Shah Alam today, that Adib’s death from injuries sustained during a riot in Subang Jaya last year was the result of a crime.
Adib, 24, was based at Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Station’s Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit when the horrendous incident that took his life occurred.
It was believed that firefighter was attacked during the riot at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya, Selangor, on Nov 27, last year.
Three weeks later, he succumbed to his injuries at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur on Dec 18.
Today, Coroner Rofiah Mohamad said Adib’s wounds were likely the result of an assault by several individuals during the incident.
The inquest was called following conflicting accounts of the events leading to Adib’s injuries, which include him being accidentally hit by his own emergency vehicle or being attacked by people who pulled him out of it.
“I am also of the view that the police and the FRU had failed to control the riot and this had contributed to Adib’s death,” Rofiah said when delivering her conclusion. — DayakDaily
