Police patrol foils attempted armed robbery at convenience store

One of the suspects suffered slight leg injuries during the arrest. 

KUCHING, Sept 27: Police foiled an armed robbery attempt and detained two men brandishing machetes at a 24-hour convenience store at Kuching City Mall, Batu Kawa, here last night.

The incident, at about 11.30pm, saw the suspects, both locals aged 17 and 19, entered the premise with clothes covering their faces.

It was believed that the duo had the intention of robbing the store manned by a female foreign worker.


“Their plans were foiled when a team of police were conducting their night patrol around the area. A pursuit took place with the patrol unit later assisted by three officers from motorcycle unit team.

“They managed to arrest the suspects and one of them suffered leg injuries,” Padawan district acting police chief DSP Merbin Lisa said in a statement.

Further investigations revealed that one of them has serious criminal record under Section 324 of the Penal Code.

The case is being investigated under section 393 of the Penal Code for robbery, which carries a jail term of up to seven years and a fine, if convicted. — DayakDaily
