KUCHING, Feb 15: It is only proper for the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) to pass the proposed amendment to style the head of the Sarawak government as ‘Premier’ to be in line with the recent amendment of the Federal Constitution, says Pujut assemblyman Adam Yii Siew Sang.

He said the recent federal constitutional amendment has restored Sarawak’s rightful status as one of the three regions in Malaysia.

“Therefore, the head of the government of a region has to be styled as a ‘Premier’, while the head of a State government has to be styled as ‘Chief Minister’,” he said in support of the Constitution of the State of Sarawak (Amendment) Bill, 2022 in the DUN sitting here today.

Yii also said that it is necessary for the government to propose a similar amendment to the Federal Constitution to change the title of the head of the Sarawak regional government to ‘Premier’ instead of ‘Chief Minister’.

“The amendment will thereby right a ‘wrong’ that has been perpetuated since the inception of the Federation of Malaysia and to be in the spirit of Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63),” he added. — DayakDaily
