Abg Jo to announce direct involvement of Sarawak company in onshore extraction

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19: Chief Minister Abang Johari Tun Openg revealed that Sarawak will get involve directly in the upstream oil and gas operation as well as participating in offshore exploration with other big oil companies.

He informed that a Sarawakian company will directly be involved in the extraction of the petroleum resource.


“Next month, I will announce how a local company from Sarawak will extract oil on shore,” he said in responding to a question during the Sarawak Agenda #TanyakAbangJo Townhall Session at Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2019 held at Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here today.

“I will announce it in my budget (during the State Legislative Assembly) and this will allow us to take part in the oil and gas industry including working together on off shore exploration with Petronas as well as other big international oil companies such as Shell and Murphy,” he added.

Abang Johari emphasised that this is what the state government is going to do.

He admitted that Sarawak oil and gas reserve is depleting and that was why the urgency for Sarawak to take part in the upstream oil and gas activities.

“Sarawak must take part in the upstream activity before depletion,” he added.— DayakDaily
