Abdul Karim retains vice presidency in National M’sia Drugs Prevention Association for 2025-2029 term

KUCHING, Aug 12: Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has retained his position as National Malaysia Drugs Prevention Association (PEMADAM) vice president for the 2025-2029 term.

According to a report from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Abdul Karim, who also helms the association’s Sarawak branch, secured 468 votes, allowing him to retain the post at the 46th PEMADAM Biennial National Assembly held in Putrajaya on Monday (Aug 11).

Over 1,000 members from across the party took part in the assembly, of which the Sarawak contingent was represented by 146 delegates.

Earlier, in his welcoming speech, National PEMADAM president Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah stressed the association’s commitment to strengthening drug prevention efforts through education, advocacy, and strategic cooperation at all levels of society.

The meeting also featured the presentation of a two-year activity report covering achievements in drug prevention education programmes, awareness campaigns in schools and communities, as well as collaborative efforts with government agencies and international bodies.

The National PEMADAM financial report was unanimously approved by the delegates.

The event concluded with closing remarks by Sarawak PEMADAM deputy chairperson Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, who expressed appreciation to all members and delegates for their dedication in combating drug abuse.

She also called on the new leadership and members of the association to remain united, pool their efforts, and implement more effective grassroots prevention programmes to achieve the goal of a ‘Drug-Free Malaysia’. — DayakDaily
