KUCHING, Oct 31: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is confident that young and new voters aged 18 to 20 will support Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the 15th General Election (GE15).

“I am not too sure about other states, but for Sarawak, I salute the youth here, and they have always been with us,” he said during a press conference held at his office in Petra Jaya today.

He said this when asked by a reporter if the implementation of Undi18 would be a challenge to GPS in the coming GE15.

Abdul Karim, who is also Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts and Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, pointed out that young and new voters are smart when it comes to selecting their representative and should not be underestimated.

He said that based on a post-mortem conducted from the previous Sarawak Election (PRN12), most of the young voters aged 21 to 24 are voting for the coalition.

“Don’t tell me that in this coming election (GE15), the youth will suddenly shift their vote to the other side.

“No, it will not be so sudden, and I believe that the young and first-time voters are educated, they will be able to see for themselves which party or candidate they should elect,” he added.

According to Election Commission’s (EC) data, Sarawak has 1,943,074 voters for GE15, which is an increase of 59.14 per cent compared to GE14. — DayakDaily
