Abdul Ghafur Shariff officially sworn in as Sarawak Chief Ombudsman

KUCHING, Aug 27: The Sarawak Chief Ombudsman, Dato Sri Abdul Ghafur Shariff, officially took his oath of office before Judge of the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak, Dato Dr Alwi Abd Wahab, at 9am at the Kuching High Court in Petra Jaya here on Aug 26.

According to a statement released by the Premier’s Office, the swearing-in ceremony was witnessed by Director of the Sarawak Integrity and Ombudsman Unit (Unions), Wan Mohamad Wan Drahman, who also serves as the Chief Administrator of the Sarawak Ombudsman.

“Sarawak made history as the first State in Malaysia to enforce laws related to the Ombudsman system when the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly passed the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance, 2023, on Nov 20 last year.

“This demonstrates the strong commitment of the Sarawak government in strengthening public service delivery, ensuring good governance, and increasing public confidence and trust in the government’s administrative machinery,” read the statement.

This swearing-in ceremony was conducted in accordance with the provisions under Section 7 of the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance, 2023. — DayakDaily
