Abang Karim steps down after 32 years, passes SCCI presidency baton to Datuk Philip Ting

KUCHING, June 11: Dato Sri Abang Abdul Karim Tun Openg officially stepped down as president of the Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) after an illustrious 32-year tenure, passing the baton to Datuk Philip Ting Ding Ing during the Chamber’s 74th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held today at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

In recognition of his outstanding and decades-long contribution, Abang Karim was conferred the title of Honorary Life president of SCCI — a fitting tribute to his legacy of leadership and service that helped shape the chamber into a key voice for Sarawak’s business community.

According to a media release, the hybrid AGM, which was also accessible virtually via Zoom, saw the election of the 2025/2027 SCCI Committee.

Alongside newly elected president, the new leadership lineup includes:

Deputy president: Albert Tang Yew Liong

Honorary secretary: Dato Alex Ting Kuang Kuo

Honorary treasurer: Anne Kung Soo Ching

Vice president (Sibu): Lawrence Law Siew Hie

Vice president (Miri): Dato Andy Chia Chu Fatt

Vice president (Bintulu): Tan Sri Paul Koon Poh Keong

Committee Members:
Professor Brian Wong Kee Mun, Dominic Chuo Kong Uh, Eric Tay Tze Kok, Fiona Marcus Raja, Hii Saan Chieng, Kok Li Ping @ Angie Kueh, Mok Venia, Nobel Pang Paul Gen, Paul Amin Satem, and Dato Sri Ir Peter Lu Nguang Siong.

In his inaugural speech, Ting expressed deep appreciation to members for their confidence in his leadership and paid tribute to Abang Karim’s legacy.

He pledged to continue advocating for Sarawak’s business community, driving sustainable economic growth, and enhancing collaboration among members.

The AGM not only marked a leadership milestone but also reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to business resilience and strategic partnerships in support of Sarawak’s economic transformation. — DayakDaily
