Abang Johari: Sarawak can be the ‘heart’ of Malaysia’s development

KUCHING, Oct 29: Sarawak can become the “heart” of Malaysia given its economic strengths due to the abundance of natural resources.

Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said as a State with a sense of responsibility, Sarawak also wishes for a strong Malaysia and has no problem contributing to the economic development in the country.


“We are not arrogant but we have the strength.

“Thus, we share our strength not only for the future of Sarawak but the whole of Malaysia,” he said when officiating at the GPS Youth Machinery event held at Indoor Stadium in Petra Jaya here today.

Abang Johari who is also Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman further said Sarawak has quality leaders who have set aside their personal differences and prioritise their struggle for the people and future generations.

“Thus this Nov 5 (nomination day), we send our candidates who are not just any (Tom, Dick and Harry).

“Then on Nov 19 (polling day), we want to see the results when we aim for 31 seats in Sarawak,” he added.

On Oct 18, Abang Johari announced that GPS will contest in all 31 parliamentary seats in Sarawak for the 15th General Election (GE15).

GPS comprises of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, State PBB permanent chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, most senior GPS leaders as well as parties’ youth chiefs Miro Simuh (PBB), Michael Tiang (SUPP), Datuk Snowdan Lawan (PRS) and David Yeo (PDP) were present. — DayakDaily
