KUCHING, June 11: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has proposed to build a new dual-carriageway from Samarahan to Asajaya and all the way to Kampung Sebuyau.

“This is not under IRSDA (Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency) development plan, but an extra from the Premier,” he said when launching IRSDA at a local hotel yesterday (June 10).

He said starting from either Serian or Gedong, the proposed dual-carriageway will then connect Gedong, Samarahan, Asajaya and Sebuyau to Sri Aman.

Once done, it would become a major road with high traffic, and the surrounding areas would receive the development spill-over benefits.

“So, we must continue to build infrastructure. When we have plans, it is easier to allocate funds to implement the projects.

“Unlike before when we always had to wait for approval from the federal side. Sometimes, only parts of the projects were granted, like utility poles but without wires.

“Development that way would not be smooth running. We want a more comprehensive development,” said Abang Johari.

Other than infrastructure, he also noted the importance of social development in terms of housing, the adoption of modern agriculture to increase food productivity, and talent development.

Among other dignitaries present for the event were Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Perfoming Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and Minister of Utilities and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi. — DayakDaily
