Abang Johari presents BKSS 8.0 assistance to 15 hawkers, petty traders to mark start of rollout

KUCHING, Feb 7: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg today handed over the one-off Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang 8.0 (BKSS 8.0) assistance worth RM1,000 to 15 hawkers and petty traders.

The symbolic handing over was held during the launching of the Housing Deposit Assistance Scheme (HDAS) at UCSI Hotel Kuching.

The presentation marked the start of disbursement of the RM1,000 special grant for hawkers and petty traders registered with local authorities under BKSS 8.0 involving a total of RM285.47 million.


The selected recipients comprised four hawkers registered under Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), four under Kuching South City Council (MBKS), four under Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) and three under Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS).

The one-off RM1,000 assistance will be given to 87,500 hawkers and petty traders registered with local authorities through Sarawak Pay this year.

This will involve a total expenditure of RM87.5 million borne by the government.

In addition, hawkers and petty traders will also continue to enjoy a 50 per cent discount on rental at markets and stalls under local government authorities, which was extended under BKSS 8.0. — DayakDaily
