KUCHING, Aug 2: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is hopeful that Sarawak’s acquisition of Bintulu Port and MASwings can be done within this year.
He said these two are among three important matters in Sarawak being overseen by the federal government which are in the process of negotiation to be returned to the State.
“There are three matters that we are currently negotiating with the Federal government to be returned to Sarawak.
“They are Bintulu Port, MASWings and the third ‘tunggu dolok’ (wait first),” he told reporters after attending the 5th anniversary of Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) dinner held at Pullman Hotel here last night.
Earlier in his speech, Abang Johari stated that within the next three to six months, the public would witness Sarawak taking over several matters from the Federal government.
“Tbese matters would complement our economic system and when our economy is strong, it would be able to elevate the status of Sarawak,” he added.
