DARO, Oct 23: There is a high chance that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will field new faces in seats lost in the previous general election.
GPS comprises Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said GPS component parties have a culture of grooming young leaders.
“In PBB, we thank those who volunteered to step down and make way for the new faces in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).
“Other component parties will also field new faces because previously, we have lost several seats. I think about 12 (seats).
“So there is a possibility that these lost seats will see new faces that we will field as candidates,” he told a press conference at Daro Sports Complex after a work visit in Daro today.
However, Abang Johari who is also the PBB president revealed that all candidates will be vetted by the Royal Malaysia Police, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and Malaysian Department of Insolvency.
“If that person is cleared, then he or she can stand as a candidate. If not cleared, he or she would not be fielded,” he added. — DayakDaily
