KUCHING, Nov 29: Datuk Rosey Yunus of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) may be renominated to defend her Bekenu seat in the 12th Sarawak Election.

PBB is one of four component parties in the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition alongside Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

Chief Minister-cum-GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg noted that Rosey has been working hard to serve her constituency.

“If you (Bekenu people) wish for Rosey to continue to serve in your constituency, God willing, I will renominate her for the coming State polls,” he said when officiating at the launching of Phase 2 of the Niah Waterfront project in Subis today.

Rosey won Bekenu, then a new seat created in the 2005 redelineation exercise, against Mohdak Ismail of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in the 2006 Sarawak Election with a 3,072-vote majority.

She then went on to defend the seat in a four-cornered fight in the 2011 Sarawak Election with 4,946 votes against Ishak Mahwi of PKR (1,232 votes), Thony Badak of Sarawak National Party (Snap) (570 votes) and Dayang Juliana Awang Tambi of Love Malaysia Party (284 votes).

She also retained the seat in the 2016 Sarawak Election with 6,009 votes after beating three other contenders namely Bill Kayong of PKR (1,220 votes) and independent candidates Austin Sigi Melu (589 votes) and Joe@Peter Jelin (565 votes). — DayakDaily
